The hardship behind a medal and an appropriate idiom.

The monkey...

I had been training four long months for my very first running race. The big day arrived and I was very excited and nervous. That’s why I spent all day without being able to do a number one. Four minutes before the start of the run, I finally felt like I wanted to take a pee (if you excuse my language). Definitely. My coach told me to forget it. “It’s too late now”. The race started and I ran like crazy. Except that, 300 meters ahead, I couldn’t take it anymore.

So my coach took me to a nearby makeshift restroom - between two cars – and set vigil. I had never felt so embarrassed. As we say in Portuguese, “I paid a big monkey”.

Fortunately, 3 minutes later I was back to the track. I managed to finish the 5-kilometer Fila Night Run in 37 minutes and, with a medal on my chest, I was very, very proud of myself.

...and the medal!

  1. Silvania, you are very courageous. This is very important in our lives. When we lead life with humor, it is much easier to live.
